LOCAL MAN RETURNS TO WEST SUSSEX

The Council of Management of Parham Park Limited, Storrington, are pleased to have appointed Richard Pailthorpe, 55, as its new General Manager. Richard takes up the post at the end of March following eleven years managing Syon Park, Middlesex, the London estate of the Duke of Northumberland.

Richard is delighted to be returning to his West Sussex roots. Having been brought up in Chichester, he studied Estate Management at Reading University and is a chartered surveyor. After working at Goodwood as assistant land agent, he then spent many happy years as assistant director at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum.

“Parham is such a beautiful place with the deer park and the splendid views of the downs. I remember first visiting it as a child and it helped to inspire my interest in historic houses”, recalls Richard. “It must be one of the best surviving examples of an Elizabethan house in the country and the wonderful gardens deserve much better recognition. I very much hope that I shall be able to develop a far greater awareness in Parham as well as sustaining its heritage and traditions”.

Richard is a keen photographer and author of a number of publications, including two books on Chichester and one about Barclay Wills and the shepherds of the Sussex. He is also a keen sportsman and follower of Sussex cricket and Portsmouth football clubs. He is married with two grown up children and lives with his wife, Jane, in Charlton, near Singleton.
