   STORRINGTON & SULLINGTON PARISH COUNCIL

 

Minutes of the Meeting of the Infrastructure, Communications and Environment Committee held in The Chanctonbury Room, The Parish Hall, Thakeham Road, Storrington, on Wednesday, 7th October 2009 commencing at 7:00 p.m.

 

Present:  Mr. J. Sanson in the Chair, Mr. D Atkins, Mr. E. Gibbons, Mr. A. Head and Mr. D. Roper.

 

In Attendance: Mrs. L. Wheatley and Mrs. A. Worthington-Leese.

28. Apologies for Absence. Were received from Mr. R. Carter and Mr. R. Dawe (prior engagements). The reasons for absence were duly ACCEPTED.

 

29. To Receive Declarations of Interest from Members.  There were no declarations of interest from Members.

 

30. To Approve and Sign the Minutes of the Last Meeting held on the 9th September 2009. Minute No. 26 should read “Motorcyclists”.  With this amendment, the minutes were duly APPROVED as being a correct record of the proceedings thereat and were signed by the Chairman.

 

31. Matters Arising.  There were no matters arising

 

 

32. Storrington Pond Matters.  The Chairman reported that the allocated budget for Pond

Maintenance had been exceeded and that further works were still required.  It was suggested

that quotations be obtained for the works and then the Chairman would approach the Finance

Committee to request further funding.  This was AGREED.

 

33. Christmas 2009. Report on Working Party Meeting held on 6th October 2009.  It was

reported that a second meeting had taken place and good progress had been made with regard to the plans for the Late Night Christmas Shopping Event.  A copy of the minutes from this meeting would be provided to all Members. The Chairman was pleased to report that sponsorship had been confirmed for the Christmas Tree Lights and for the winning Childrens Design to be made into a decoration to be erected on the exterior of Fowlers Estate Agents. The Sponsor had been named as Caremark, Pulborough, who would attend the evening and switch on the Christmas Tree Lights and further funding had also been promised by Yeomans, Nissan in Worthing.  Attractions on the evening would include a Fun Fair, Father Christmas and Sleigh (provided by The Round Table), Carol Singing, Face Painting, Raffle or Prize Draw, Free chips for children and a Market area where local traders would sell festive produce.  An application for Road Closures had been made to Horsham District Council and members of the Round Table had agreed to organise the closure and re-opening of roads on the date of the event.  Signs advertising the event would be displayed along the roads into the village, contact would be made with local media to publicise the evening and posters and flyers would be produced.  A further meeting had been arranged for Thursday 19th November to finalise plans for the Evening.
