HIGH STREET WORKS - LATEST

The joint funded Storrington Village Enhancement Scheme between West Sussex County Council and Horsham District Council is nearing completion, with the majority of the old uneven pavements in the centre of the village now having been replaced with a new, level, hard wearing footway surface.

The locally sourced modular paving has been used from West Street throughout the High Street to the School Hill/Manley’s Hill roundabout giving the village centre a new, rejuvenated look whilst maintaining the traditional village feel.

The area outside Mulberry House has been redesigned.  Six car parking spaces have been removed and replaced with a pedestrian area containing seating, cycle stands, planters and a new highway tree, making the area considerably safer and more pleasant for pedestrians.

The difficulties encountered by pedestrians in crossing the busy A283 High Street at the eastern end of the village, near the recently refurbished Colonnade, have been eased by the introduction of a new pedestrian refuge island.  This feature allows pedestrians to cross one lane of traffic at a time whilst having a safe refuge area to wait in the middle of the carriageway until the other lane is safe to cross.

A new loading bay has been introduced outside Lloyds TSB in the High Street, enabling any vehicle to load and unload between 8am and 6pm.  Outside this period there is no waiting restriction applied, allowing any vehicle to use the bay.

The new street furniture and other minor works are programmed to be completed by the 22nd August 2008. The tree outside Mulberry House (The Square) is due to be planted in the week commencing 25th August.

The West Sussex County Council, Horsham District Council and the Storrington & Sullington Community Partnership would like to thank local residents and traders for your continued support and patience during the works.
