Horsham archaeology iron smelting

“Minepits, Mud and Mayhem – Recent Archaeological Work at Horam, East Sussex”. Simon Stevens BA, MCIfA, Senior Archaeologist with Archaeology South-East.

A recent archaeological excavation on a site at Horam in the Weald of East Sussex has revealed a landscape pockmarked with deep minepits used for the extraction of iron ore.

This illustrated talk will look at these discoveries and their place in the ongoing study of the Wealden iron industry and experimental archaeology.

All welcome!
