History of Champagne Talk at Storrington Museum

“THE HISTORY OF CHAMPAGNE”

A Talk given by PETER GRIFFITHS

November 8th at 2.30 p.m. at Storrington Museum,
Old School, School Lane, Storrington RH20 4LL.

The talk deals with the history of Champagne, going back to the earliest fossil of a grape, dated back to around 66m years ago. It covers the Roman influence and the earliest forms of sparkling wine; then the spread through Europe and the rest of the world including the First and Second World Wars.

Peter will go through the process of making Champagne and finish with interesting facts about Champagne. Not an invention of the monk, Dom Perignon, but much, much earlier, and English!

I am afraid there are no free samples!

Peter Griffiths started flying with BOAC in 1967, on B707s, both as a Pilot and Navigator. He finished a few years ago, flying executive jets for the rich and infamous. He left BOAC in 1975 and then spent 29 years with Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong, rising to Fleet Manager B747, managing 19 aircraft I evacuated people from China, after the Tiananmen Square massacre and flew a freighter during the First Gulf War.
