Let Rotary recycle your Christmas Tree for charity

Rotary Xmas Tree Recycling 2021

Once the festivities are over and it’s time to pack away the Christmas tinsel and baubles, there is the irksome and awkward task of disposing of the Christmas tree. Rotary is offering a recycling service as an alternative option to the trip to the household waste tip.

Rotary members will collect Christmas Trees from residents from 6 January then recycle them in an eco-friendly way on an Ashington farm – for a minimum donation of £5 per tree.

Trees can be collected from most of the RH20 postcode area including Pulborough, Storrington and all the surrounding villages such as Fittleworth, Nutbourne, West Chiltington, Thakeham, Coldwaltham and Watersfield, plus Amberley.

The trees are then chipped, with the residue ready for use around the farm, by Rob Dakin of Findon Valley Tree Care who donates his fee to the scheme.

To book a collection just email recyclexmastree@hotmail.com with your name, address and telephone number

Rotary’s project coordinator, Mark Foss said: “We were disappointed that last year’s collection had to be cancelled due to Covid after many residents had requested the service and local charities missed out on a funding boost.

This year residents can again avoid all the inconvenience and mess of transporting trees to the tip or burning them, knowing that they will have a ‘green’ end use and that worthwhile charitable causes will benefit in the process.”

Storrington & Pulborough District Rotary Club is grateful to all of its partners in this venture including, Findon Valley Tree Care, participating Christmas tree retailers (Big Plant Centre Ashington, Gatley’s Country Store, Oldfield Stables, Squires GC Washington, Tates Old Barn Nursery. West Chiltington Village Nursery and British Garden Centres Pulborough) and local residents.
