May is a key month for the parish as we host the second White Stork & Nature Festival organised in collaboration with the White Stork Project at the Knepp Estate. A slightly later date this year – Saturday, 23 May – which we hope will be many degrees warmer than last year!
Stork Mural Opening
Among a day of highlights, we open with the launch of the White Stork mural in Place Villarest. ‘Estorchetone’ is mentioned in the Domesday Book, meaning the abode or homestead of storks. After 600 years, the White Stork Project at the Knepp Estate in Shipley has been instrumental in the new breeding era of these beautiful birds. The mural has been crowd-funded and organised by a Parish resident and we thank them for their fantastic commitment.
Programme
This fun-packed day starts early for the fifty stallholders who will be setting up around the Recreation Ground alongside various refreshment vans and activities plus an array of animals with birds of prey, dog training and the beautiful Dexter cows.
At Storrington Primary School, children dressed in the competition theme of “stork” will line up and parade down to the Recreation Ground at 10am to mark the start of the event. Activities continue throughout the morning until 3.30pm.
We are delighted to welcome five fantastic speakers to the Leisure Centre. These talks were super popular last year so please arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Are there any volunteers reading this who could support the set up or breakdown of the event. Willing hands welcome- please contact office@storrington-pc.gov.uk
Parish Website
We finally said goodbye to the old parish website which was well past its sell-by date. The new website is now live on www.storrington-pc.gov.uk where you can find calendars, agendas and minutes with related documents and policies including information about the running of the Parish Council, its office, and news including road closures, planning, district and council news. We are closely linked into the popular Storrington Community Website where there is loads of local information. Take a look at the stunning drone posts on the welcome page and our Gallery featuring photos from the Storrington Camera Club.
Annual Parish Meeting
The Annual Parish Meeting took place on 22 April. A recording and minutes including questions from the public are available on the parish website.
