Our very own local “Extinction Rebellion Arun Valley” group was set up at the end of October 2019. We are working in various ways to raise awareness and a sense of urgency about the twin issues of the Climate and Ecological Emergency. The aim is to bring positive threads of change and action to local people throughout the Arun Valley. We endeavour to support and unite everyone in their quest to combat climate breakdown. Our planet is in crisis. We must act now. Together we can make a difference.
Please join us in any volunteer capacity of your choice, whether it be from administrative, financial, fund-raising, marketing, educational to engaging your creativity in music or art. Here is a chance to meet new like-minded friends, have fun and achieve something very worthwhile. Thinking global and acting local we can build a regenerative local community to make a positive difference to the future of the world.

South East Climate Alliance (SECA) Contact: Sally BarnardNotes
The South East Climate Alliance (SECA) is a coalition of local environmental, community and faith groups from the South East of England uniting for urgent action on climate change. It acts as an informal umbrella group and has been set up to share ideas and coordinate action.
SECA was set up in February 2019 and hold regular meetings. The SECA Steering Group is made up of volunteers from member organisations. Groups affiliated with SECA remain autonomous and will continue to take their own decisions. Some will adopt traditional community organising approaches; others may prefer a non-violent direct action approach, as is being championed by the Extinction Rebellion movement. SECA is not responsible for the actions of its individual member groups, nor is it affiliated to any political party. We have pledged to take a deliberately cross-party approach in our campaigning as we believe that the issue of climate change goes way beyond party politics.

Whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines, members from Dukes Row, Cootham Green and New Town Road are aspiring to increase awareness of our reliance on and the ecological effects of the global food supply chains, as well as our inherent human need to interact with our environment intellectually as well as physically. Guides is the Girlguiding for girls aged 10 to 14.

Members take part in a wide range of exciting activities at their regular meetings, and at special events or holidays. Girls can get involved in anything from adventure sports to performing arts, travel and taking part in community action projects.
Guides work together in small groups or ‘Patrols’ and, with the support of an adult Leader, choose and run some of the activities themselves using Go for It! resource packs.
The Guide programme is divided into five areas:
– discovery of new experiences and challenges
– healthy lifestyles
– global awareness
– skills and relationships
– celebrating diversity.
Girls can extend their knowledge and skills by working towards Guide interest badges covering many different hobbies and activities from Film lover to Independent living. They can also gain Challenge badges that recognise their participation in guiding over a period of time. The badges build towards the Baden-Powell Challenge Award, named in honour of the founder of guiding.

The Trefoil Guild
In Trefoil Guild, women and men aged 18+ make new friends, travel, explore, serve their communities and help Guiding (and Scouting) thrive across the UK!
Whether you’re involved in guiding or not, Trefoil Guild is a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded people to share your next adventure – whatever that might be!
Trefoil Guild is a branch of Girlguiding and its members agree to support the guiding ethos – including the pledge to help other people. Many members pass on their skills and knowledge to local guiding units, from helping Brownies work towards a badge to preparing older girls for a camping adventure. Many members are unit leaders or helpers in Girlguiding units.
But it’s not all about the girls – there are plenty or opportunities for members to try something new, take on a new personal challenge and escape the daily routine. The best thing is that what you do is up to you!
