U3A: From Corrie to Home Fires – 50 years in television @ Pulborough Village Hall
Aug 22 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

U3A Jim Whelan talk

A talk by Jim Whelan, actor, singer and comic for the University of the Third Age.

Come along to Pulborough Village Hall from 10.30 am to 12 noon to hear our guest speaker who has appeared in some of the biggest story lines in Coronation Street, Emmerdale, The Royle Family and Home Fires.

Born into poverty during the second world war in the back streets of Salford, Jim’s talk takes us from 1942 to the present day, charting the highs and lows of a life and career that has seen him work with such luminaries as Rod Steiger, Anthony Perkins, David Tennant, David Morrissey, Ray Winstone and more recently Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis and Ed Stoppard. He has appeared in Coronation Street in every Decade that it has existed and after more than fifty episodes, playing seven characters, is friendly with many of the ‘regulars’. The talk is given in a humorous and entertaining manner; having been a ‘Stand up’ comic for many years, Jim can bring out the anecdotes and will happily do a question and answer segment if required.

Make a note of Wednesday 22 August in your diary now so that there’s no chance of you missing a very interesting and entertaining morning!
