We welcome newcomers and whatever the weather the more the merrier. We supply the tools and safety equipment and the all important tea, coffee and cake!

Future Plans

We go in to the next phase of our Higher Level Stewardship scheme, in which we will look to expand the heathland element of both Warren Hill and Sullington Warren, and to change the age structure of the heather on Sullington Warren to make it more resilient to environmental threats such as the heather beetle.

We will continue to graze Old Washington Common and the Rough Land with Belted Galloway cattle and with sheep. Via the path network we will create stronger links between Warren Hill and Sullington Warren.

Archaeology: Worms, Ashes and Bones: Excavations at Cocks Farm Abinger 1872-2019 @ Brighton Road Baptist Church
Feb 12 @ 7:30 pm

Archaeologist washing finds

Horsham District Archaeology Group presents…

“Worms, Ashes and Bones”: Excavations at Cocks Farm Abinger 1872-2019.  A talk by Emma Corke, Director of Excavations.

Excavations by antiquarians and more recently by Surrey Archaeological Society have revealed not only a Roman villa but also signs of continuous farming activity and buildings from the Iron Age, through the Roman period and beyond. Earlier indications of a human presence are from Mesolithic flints, Neolithic pottery and signs of activity in the Bronze Age.
