Remembrance Sunday Church Service @ St Mary's Parish Church

Poppies for Remembrance Sunday at Storrington

This year’s Remembrance Service at St Mary’s Parish Church will take place on Sunday 14 November at 3pm.

Wreath laying is at the War Memorial at the Church (2.50pm).

Preceding the Wreath laying there will be the usual march through the town. The march will be led by the Standards and then by the Scouts and Guides, however, if anyone wishes to join at the end of the column that would be good. The assembly place for the march will be at the Waitrose bus stop in Old Mill Drive at 2.15pm. Once everyone is ready, the step off will be at 2.30pm going into the High Street then into Church Street and finally mustering at the bottom of the stairs leading up to St Mary’s. Poppy wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial at 2.50pm under the direction of the Storrington Branch chairman of the Royal British Legion, Willie Shackell.

It is the Royal British Legion’s centenary year: the Storrington Branch were one of the founding branch members in 1921 and during the Service we will dedicate our new Standard.

Storrington Remembrance Parade Sunday 12 November @ Storrington Bus Circle
Nov 12 @ 2:20 pm – 3:00 pm

Storrington Remembrance Parade 2023

All veterans and serving members of HM Armed Forces are particularly encouraged to participate and serving members of the emergency services and other uniformed organisations are welcomed. Please wear a poppy and any medals you are entitled to wear.

The parade will assemble at Old Mill Drive bus circle (behind Waitrose) at around 2.20pm and finish at the Church just before 3pm. The road around School Lane / Church Street / Greyfriars Lane will remain closed for approx. 10-15 minutes whilst the wreaths are laid.

We are still short a few volunteers to close roads, so if you are free to assist, please make yourself known – if these positions are not filled the parade cannot go ahead.

If you play an instrument and are able to join the cymbals and cornet currently playing, please let us know – we are particularly interested to hear from drummers.

Please also be aware that within the town at 11am Saturday 11th November, traffic will be stopped for a two minute silence outside the White Horse where the Storrington Roll of Honour is displayed.
