The tale of a rescue excavation and watching brief on private land at Edburton between 2018 and 2021. During the creation of a new fishing lake linear chalk blocks were noticed beneath a thick layer of peat, which has since led to a large range of artefacts emerging from the boggy ground.
Hints of a substantial Romano-British structure or settlement have been revealed – but much mystery remains…!

“Sussex Green Living”
A Talk by Carrie Cort – CEO of Sussex Green Living
Sussex Green Living is a fast growing, multi-award environmental awareness and education charity. With the help of volunteers, they run the Sussex Green Hub, the Horsham Repair Café, Sussex Green Ideas and their Youth Eco Forum. Green living is a hot topic, so come and hear their aims, activities and lessons we can all use.
Carrie Cort set up Sussex Green Living out of concern for the way we humans are treating the planet which sustains us: with motherhood in 2008 came concern about environmental sustainability and a burning desire to learn how we can live more environmentally friendly lifestyles, in harmony with nature.
She has always had a passion for the countryside, animals and the natural environment. Most of her career has been spent in marketing and communications, mainly within education and the land based industries, latterly using the power of video communications. In an effort to help create a climate for change, she decided to use her knowledge and digital skills to share ideas which anyone can adopt, saving money and the planet.
She says she is not an expert, just an ordinary person who is on a greening journey and wanting to pass on what she’s learnt to others. Let’s all make some simple changes, become more resilient and try to lead simpler, less materialistic and consumerist way of life.
All welcome

Early European Jewellery
A talk by Dr Judie English
Presented by Horsham and District Archaeology Group
From the Neanderthals onwards people have used objects to adorn themselves, often this jewellery is of sufficient importance to be buried as grave goods to travel with them into the afterlife. Precious, rare and beautiful materials, symbols of power, were used and skilled labour employed to provide objects for people of high status, but the urge to wear jewellery extends throughout society. This talk will look at jewellery in Europe from the Palaeolithic to the end of the Medieval periods.
