Horsham District Older Peoples Forum: New Leader at HDC, NHS, Roundabout Talking News @ Age UK
Aug 30 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Do you know, or should you be interested in, what issues and concerns local older people have?

Horsham Older Peoples Forum Meeting August 30th

Our next meeting is on the 30th August, 10:30am to 12:30pm.

The meeting venue is at Age UK, Lavinia House, Dukes Square, Denne Road, Horsham RH12 1GZ if you would like to attend ‘in person’ or attend via Zoom. To reserve your place or request the Zoom joining information, please use our contact us page or email hdopforum@gmail.com

We have, as always, relevant and informative guest speakers:

Martin Boffey, the new Leader of Horsham District Council (HDC)

The political leadership of HDC has changed after 24 years, from Conservative controlled, to Liberal Democrat. We will ask Mr Boffey what surprises he had when he and his fellow party councillors took over, what plans they have for the future of our District and, of course, your questions. Due to limited time, if you have a specific question you’d like answered, please email them to us.

Tom Goodridge, Sussex NHS – Public Involvement Lead for West Sussex

Forum meetings have raised concerns about online NHS services and how to access them through mobile phones, computers, and tablets. The main concerns are what happens if you don’t use a computer or mobile phone? What services are or will only be computer/online in the future? Please let us know before the meeting if you have a specific question you’d like answered. Tom will also update us on the latest developments in our local health services, GP surgeries, vaccinations etc.

Linda Clinton, Roundabout Talking News

Do you know about a weekly audio recording with news, information and articles from the West Sussex County Times read by volunteers, supplied and delivered free to the visually impaired? This is a much-appreciated service by those who use it, and many more visually impaired people would love to have this service if they only knew about it.A regular quarterly meeting of the Horsham District Older Peoples Forum. The Forum acts as the ‘eyes and ears’ for local older people and carers. It allows for raising issues and freely expressing views and concerns. The Forum can, where appropriate, raise those issues and problems with the relevant people, authorities and organisations or look to create a project to tackle the issue.

And, of course, time for issues and concerns to be raised and discussed. Usually, there are those attending who often helpfully know the answers, i.e. local Councillors who care about local older peoples’ issues and healthcare professionals.

Our public meetings are always friendly and enjoyable. I’ve always learnt something.

I look forward to seeing you either in person or via Zoom.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

All meetings are free to attend: see future public meeting dates .

Martin Bruton
Chairman
Horsham District Older Peoples Forum
07840 966124

The Forum is working towards an ‘Age-Friendly’ and ‘Dementia Friendly’ Horsham.

The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum (HDOPF) is an independent, non-political, voluntary group that is free to attend and participate in. It acts as the ‘ears’ and gives a ‘voice’ to people aged 60 and over who reside in the Horsham District Council area or care for someone who is. The Forum exists for anyone to raise issues related to or affect local older people. The Forum holds quarterly public meetings within the district. We take action where possible on issues raised, i.e. take up with local councils or with a project; we also act as an information hub and consultative group for anyone seeking the views of older people in the district on particular plans, topics, or schemes that may affect older people. The Forum is pleased to circulate and publicise information and any events that may interest local older people or carers.

Storrington “Memory” Choir @ Trinity Methodist Church
Aug 30 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Storrington Trinity Memory Choir

The Trinity Sunshine Choir in Storrington

A dementia friendly choir at Trinity Methodist Church, Thakeham Road, Storrington RH20 3NG.

Led by cognitive stimulation therapist Ric Gray, the session runs from 1030-1200 with time allowed for a cup of tea or coffee and a chance to make friends before the singing starts.

The choir is aimed at people aged 55 or over who are experiencing memory problems, but is open to all. No auditions, no sheet music, just good fun!  The sessions are most informal and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. The songs we sing are well known across different genres and we use a screen to display the lyrics and have accompanying backing tracks.

Anyone interested can contact Robert Gamble at robertgamblerc@gmail.com or 07958 232874.
