“Life above the Tunnel”

A Talk by David Porter

April 2nd at 2.30 p.m. at Storrington Museum,
Old School, School Lane, Storrington RH20 4LL.

David has lived at the Clayton Tunnel North Portal, which is 7 miles outside Brighton, since 2003. After clearing the land of decades of rubbish and cutting back the rampant vegetation that seeks to overcome the cottage, he has sought to bring the story of this unique building to the attention of a wider audience through talks and the occasional tour.

David is an experienced public speaker and, during his day job, works as a freelance fraud investigator. In this talk he explains this Gothic folly’s historic origins and features a bold Victorian architect, plucky railway families, all manner of flora and fauna, railway disasters, secret passages and a few ghosts.

Venue: Old School, School Lane, Storrington RH20 4LL.

Members £6. Non Members £8. All welcome

Teas & Coffees will be available after the talk.

No booking required

Trinity Sunshine Choir, Storrington @ Trinity Methodist Church
Apr 24 @ 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Storrington Sunshine Choir

A Community Choir in Storrington

A dementia friendly choir at Trinity Methodist Church, Thakeham Road, Storrington RH20 3NG.

Led by cognitive stimulation therapist Ric Gray, the session runs from 1030-1200 with time allowed for a cup of tea or coffee and a chance to make friends before the singing starts.

The choir is aimed at people aged 55 or over who are experiencing memory problems, but is open to all. No auditions, no sheet music, just good fun!  The sessions are most informal and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. The songs we sing are well known across different genres and we use a screen to display the lyrics and have accompanying backing tracks.

Anyone interested can contact Robert Gamble at robertgamblerc@gmail.com or 07958 232874.

Storrington Museum Talk “I NEVER KNEW GEOGRAPHY WOULD BE SO RELEVANT” @ The Old School
May 7 @ 7:30 pm

Storrington & District Museum I NEVER KNEW GEOGRAPHY WOULD BE SO RELEVANT! Talk May 2024 Poster

“I NEVER KNEW GEOGRAPHY WOULD BE SO RELEVANT; WHY DIDN’T I CONCENTRATE MORE AT SCHOOL”

A Talk by William Avenell

An amusing look at how geography impinges on our everyday life .For example, why do motorway traffic jams suddenly disappear ?
The talk has plenty of good-natured humour and demonstrates some insightful local knowledge. Bill Avenell has a passion for unusual features in the landscape. He is a specialist in topography and taught geography at a public school. Most of us were taught geography at school, but not topography, which is a field of geoscience, studying forms and features of land surfaces.
Bill will explain the impact that physical geography has made on our daily lives.

May 7th 7.30 p.m. at Storrington Museum,

Venue: Old School, School Lane, Storrington RH20 4LL.

Members £6. Non Members £8. All welcome

Teas & Coffees will be available after the talk.
