Many people don’t realise that children can get in free to nearly all gardens and while gardens are probably not a child’s first choice of venue, it’s surprising how many of them enjoy the freedom of wandering round the pathways and spotting quirky features in gardens like The Old Vicarage in Washington (which also has an amazing treehouse, swing and woodland area for children to enjoy!).
The National Garden Scheme have donated over £77.8 million to nursing and health charities and in 2025 made an annual donation of over £3.8 million. The core beneficiaries include Carers Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK, Parkinson’s UK and The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing.
