In its 8th year of raising funds by collecting used Christmas trees, the Rotary Club of Storrington & Pulborough District raised a record amount of around £8,400 for local charities.
Due to the generosity of people in the community and our growing number of sponsors, Chestnut Tree House (Children’s Hospice Care) will be receiving in excess of £4,000 and the rest will go to other worthy local causes supported by Rotary.
In all, 486 Christmas trees were collected – a 16% increase over last year – in Pulborough, Storrington, Amberley, Ashington, West Chiltington, Billingshurst and other local villages.
Welcome help with the collections this year came locally from Pulborough Shedders teams and Billingshurst District Lions Club. We once again collaborated with JustHelping, a charity that brings communities together through volunteering, with its annual Christmas Tree Collection event uniting thousands of people to support over 150 charities, making a lasting impact both locally and nationally.
A number of local sponsors also supported the Rotary collection and we were particularly grateful once again for the help given by TreeSmiths Ltd, who speedily chipped the trees at several locations including Brinsbury College and Link Farm, Pulborough.
Rotarian Anne Fielding Smith co-ordinated the service and comments… “Many more trees were collected this year which shows this service is appreciated by many throughout the community and Rotary thanks everyone who made a donation when booking their tree for recycling”.
