Storrington Conservation Society – July Newsletter

Family walking in countryside

With cautious relief we received the relaxation of the Covid 19 restrictions announced by the Government. This means we should be able to resume limited working parties, so long as we follow the revised arrangements that are required. For details of our programme, see below.

We know everything depends on behaving sensibly if the reintroductions of restrictions is to be avoided. It is noteworthy that since the start of the lockdown, more walkers, joggers, riders and cyclists are taking the opportunity to enjoy the paths and bridleways in the area. Family groups being especially noticeable. Perhaps this will become part of the new normal. It demonstrates how valuable our green spaces are. Research shows use of them is good for our mental and physical health. Their conservation is vital. Making them more accessible to all should be seen as essential.

A small work party is arranged for Thursday 16th July at 2.00pm at Foxmead Court, where we have been asked to carry out the annual pond care. If planning to take part, please contact Mick Denness (phone no. below).

Then, if circumstances allow, the regular Saturday morning work party is due to meet in Fryern Dell on 5th September at 10.00am to carry out further restoration work of the Victorian Pleasure Garden. This to be confirmed nearer the time.

For information about when our activities will resume, or on becoming a member, please get in touch with Chairman Mick Denness on 01903 745971, or see our website
