Open Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June (11-5). Home- made teas.

Nutbourne is a beautiful, tranquil, and friendly hamlet near Pulborough. It boasts a thousand years of history dating back before the Norman conquest and has spectacular views across the South Downs. This is a wonderful opportunity to meander through the village and visit four very different gardens, all within a short walking distance of each other. The gardens can be visited in any order, and tickets will be on sale at a central location. Hobbs is a small cottage style garden with a fabulous wisteria covered pergola. The Old Manor is a fascinating Victorian allotment style kitchen garden. Next, wander down to the Mill House and explore the contrast of rose and herb gardens, with an enchanting mill stream running along the bottom of the garden. Finally, enjoy a drink on the lawn beneath the Indian bean tree at the beautiful Shorts Farm, a classic cottage style country garden.

Occasionally garden openings are cancelled please always check on the NGS website https://ngs.org.uk before visiting a garden.

Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors The National Garden Scheme have donated over £77.8 million to nursing and health charities and in 2025 made an annual donation of over £3.8 million. National Garden Scheme: Steyning Gardens Open Day @ Steyning Gardens
Jun 20 @ 10:30 am – 5:00 pm

A garden in Steyning

National Garden Scheme: Steyning Gardens: Three gardens opening in aid of NGS charities

Three lovely gardens opening together in aid of NGS charities

Open Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June (10.30-5.00). Combined admission £10, children free. Home-made teas at Nightingale House.

Steyning is a lively market town on the edge of the South Downs, home to many artists and crafts people. The three gardens open are all very different. Brambletye is a south facing garden designed with a prairie effect to attract birds and pollinators. It is planted with bulbs, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, and roses, and a small sunken area with raised beds for vegetables and herbs. Nightingale House has a recently designed cottage style garden with both perennials and annuals. There is an attractive greenhouse and a bespoke metal screen covered in roses and clematis. 15 Penlands Rise is a small cottage garden that has evolved into a series of borders and island beds, with narrow paths in between. There are roses, clematis, many salvias and perennials, and a collection of over 100 pots, some with hydrangeas, but most filled with a colourful mix of annuals and tender plants.

Occasionally garden openings are cancelled please always check on the NGS website https://ngs.org.uk before visiting a garden.
