A Special Visit Celebrating Community and Connection
It was a great honour for West Sussex Minibus to welcome The Princess of Wales onto one of its minibus journeys a couple of weeks ago, in a visit that highlighted the importance of community, volunteering and connection.
Her Royal Highness travelled with the minibus as it collected a number of regular passengers before continuing to The Pulborough Lunch Club, where a special celebratory lunch had been arranged. During her visit, she spent time chatting with volunteers, minibus members and regular lunch club attendees, taking an interest in their experiences and the role both organisations play within the local community.
The occasion was particularly significant as West Sussex Minibus is celebrating its 50th year of service, while The Pulborough Lunch Club marks its 60th anniversary. Together, the two organisations represent 110 years of commitment to supporting local people and creating opportunities for people to come together.
For those who use the minibus and attend the lunch club, the importance of these services extends beyond the practicalities of transport or providing a regular meal. They offer opportunities for friendship, conversation and connection, helping to reduce the loneliness and isolation that can affect people in many different circumstances.
The Princess’s visit also provided an opportunity to recognise the many volunteers who give their time to both organisations. Their dedication is an important part of what makes these community services possible and so valued by those who use them.
For everyone involved, it was a truly memorable occasion and a fitting way to mark two significant milestones. The celebratory lunch brought passengers, members and volunteers together for a very special day, while the visit helped shine a light on the importance of community organisations and the connections they foster.
For those who had the opportunity to meet The Princess of Wales and share this special occasion with her, it is a day that will undoubtedly be remembered for many years to come.
