Horsham District Jobs & Skills Fair

Calling all local job hunters! Horsham District Jobs and Skills Fair recruiters announced

Horsham District Council is issuing a call out to all local job hunters who are looking for paid work, voluntary work or new training opportunities to come along to the Horsham District Jobs and Skills Fair which, after a break last year is now back for 2021.

The 2021 Jobs and Skills Fair will take place on Saturday 2 October from 10am to 3pm at the Drill Hall in Denne Road, Horsham.

Following the great success of previous Jobs Fairs, including a virtual one last year due to the pandemic, where hundreds of local jobseekers have been matched with hundreds of local jobs, the Fair is making a welcome return with the promise of lots of jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities on offer.

The Fair, organised by Horsham District Council, will be a great opportunity for those seeking a job, thinking of changing their existing one or considering on-the-job training through an apprenticeship to meet a wide range of employers eager to recruit and grow their organisations.

Just some of the employers and training providers who have signed up to attend this year include:

  • Assurity Consulting
  • The Army
  • Chichester College
  • Creative Technology
  • Piron Recycling
  • Places Leisure
  • Schroders asset management
  • Proud to Care
  • South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB)
  • Sussex Police
  • Border Force
  • Thomas Keating
  • West Sussex County Council
  • Horsham District Council.

Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for the Local Economy Cllr Chris Brown commented:
“The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted the lives of many people in our local area, not least in terms of their prospects for employment.

“”I am delighted that we can hold our Jobs Fair as a live event this year, as I believe it will play an important role in securing new opportunities for residents and will also help many businesses with their post pandemic recruitment plans.

“I would encourage as many people as possible who are looking for work or to start new training programmes to save the date and come along on the day to meet the broad range of employers and check out the many opportunities on offer.”

The fair looks to build on the success of five previous physical events (and a number of online trials) which have in the past helped hundreds of local companies connect with local people looking to find jobs and grow their skills in our ever-changing jobs market.

Following on from the physical event this year, all opportunities will then be posted on our vacancies website https://www.jobsfair.horsham.gov.uk/ .

Poppies for Remembrance Sunday at Storrington

This year’s Remembrance Service at St Mary’s Parish Church will take place on Sunday 14 November at 3pm.

Wreath laying is at the War Memorial at the Church (2.50pm).

Preceding the Wreath laying there will be the usual march through the town. The march will be led by the Standards and then by the Scouts and Guides, however, if anyone wishes to join at the end of the column that would be good. The assembly place for the march will be at the Waitrose bus stop in Old Mill Drive at 2.15pm. Once everyone is ready, the step off will be at 2.30pm going into the High Street then into Church Street and finally mustering at the bottom of the stairs leading up to St Mary’s. Poppy wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial at 2.50pm under the direction of the Storrington Branch chairman of the Royal British Legion, Willie Shackell.

It is the Royal British Legion’s centenary year: the Storrington Branch were one of the founding branch members in 1921 and during the Service we will dedicate our new Standard.

Storrington Remembrance Parade Sunday 12 November @ Storrington Bus Circle
Nov 12 @ 2:20 pm – 3:00 pm

Storrington Remembrance Parade 2023

All veterans and serving members of HM Armed Forces are particularly encouraged to participate and serving members of the emergency services and other uniformed organisations are welcomed. Please wear a poppy and any medals you are entitled to wear.

The parade will assemble at Old Mill Drive bus circle (behind Waitrose) at around 2.20pm and finish at the Church just before 3pm. The road around School Lane / Church Street / Greyfriars Lane will remain closed for approx. 10-15 minutes whilst the wreaths are laid.

We are still short a few volunteers to close roads, so if you are free to assist, please make yourself known – if these positions are not filled the parade cannot go ahead.

If you play an instrument and are able to join the cymbals and cornet currently playing, please let us know – we are particularly interested to hear from drummers.

Please also be aware that within the town at 11am Saturday 11th November, traffic will be stopped for a two minute silence outside the White Horse where the Storrington Roll of Honour is displayed.
