Summer Show a Great Success
Despite difficult growing conditions this year, our Summer Show was a great success. The Village Hall was full of beautiful fruit, flowers and vegetables to say nothing of the cookery, preserves and handicrafts.

Our president, Tom Brown, presented the cups and trophies at the end of the afternoon. Here he is shown making a presentation to David Stevens. A full list of winners is given below. Huge congratulations to them all for their dedication and hard work in producing such excellent entries.

Last Month’s Talk
At the July meeting we were treated to a presentation about herbaceous clematis by Everett Leeds.
Herbaceous clematis are different from the clematis we are mostly familiar with. They don’t suffer from Clematis Wilt, as they have thicker stems. They don’t need support, as they do not climb, instead forming a shrub-like plant, but they do need good drainage.

Everett took us through an illustrated exploration of very many different herbaceous clematis, some of which he had bred himself, and gave advice on positioning, care, and propagation. They range greatly in size, colour, and perfume, and in their garden applications, from hanging baskets to massive shrubs.
