Nurses skydive for Rockinghorse charity

Storrington paediatric nurse to skydive for the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity

Claire lives in Storrington. She works as a nurse in the Critical Care Unit/HDU in the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. She is trained in children’s and adult nursing. She has helped out many times in the adult Covid ITU, mainly in January, when they were really busy and short staffed. Her colleagues trained in children’s nursing have also done a shift or two in Adult ITU to help them out when they were struggling in January. Claire also does the agency shifts and works nights in a young boys home who has 24/7 nurses and carers.

Claire has teamed up with colleagues Hannah, Miki, Nat, Nicola, Helen Q, and Emma S. to take the plunge and do a skydive to raise money for the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity. “As you can imagine fundraising has been hit hard the last 18 months. Therefore, some of us Paediatric HDU nurses have decided to try and help them out. We are all different ages.”

The Rockinghorse Children’s Charity aims to improve the lives of sick children throughout Sussex. They are the fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (the Alex) in Brighton. But also provide vital support to the neighbouring Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) and its sister site, The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) based within the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. In addition they support paediatric wards in hospitals across Sussex, respite centres and children’s services in the county.

Last year Rockinghorse provided the Alex Children’s Hospital with vital equipment including ventilators, bedside stethoscopes, parent camp beds, a portable lung function machine and an anaesthetic pump.

“The money raised from the skydive which we will be doing on the 25th of September will go toward medical equipment, Co2 monitoring, Toni box audiobook readers, sensory equipment for special babies, visualise ceiling lights, woodland wellbeing days, and riding therapy.”

Emma, one of the team members has also organised a raffle. see below:
