Storrington and Sullington Parish Council is delighted to announce that its application for Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding has been successful, with a £2 million grant award approved by Horsham District Council towards a major programme of investment in local leisure and community facilities.
The funding will support the ambitious Chanctonbury Recreation Hub project, delivering significant improvements and modernisation to key community facilities including:
- Chanctonbury Leisure Centre
- Storrington Football Pavilion
- Storrington Cricket Pavilion
This major investment will help ensure local facilities can continue meeting the growing demands of Storrington and surrounding communities, providing enhanced opportunities for sport, health, fitness, recreation and wider community wellbeing for many years to come.
Cllr John Loney, who coordinated the project on behalf of the Parish Council, said:
“This is fantastic news for our community. Our leisure facilities have been operating at capacity for some time as Storrington and the surrounding villages continue to grow. This funding represents a major investment in the future of our village and will allow us to create modern facilities that better serve residents of all ages for generations to come.”
Andi Dunstan, Manager of Chanctonbury Leisure Centre, added:
“The modernisation of the Leisure Centre and the adjacent sports clubs is extremely welcome, and we already have exciting ideas about how this new space can be used to expand activities and services. These facilities are a vital community hub for a large catchment area and this investment will help us strengthen our support for the health, fitness and social wellbeing of thousands of local people.”
The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who has contributed to developing the project and supporting the application process.
Detailed project plans have already been developed and the next stage will involve progressing formal agreements, final approvals and the planning process before works can begin.
This project represents one of the most significant investments in community infrastructure in Storrington in recent years and marks an exciting step forward for the future of local leisure provision.
Further updates will be shared with residents as the project progresses.
