At a presentation this morning at the inaugural Storrington White Stork and Nature Revival Festival, Knepp/Storrington was named the UK European Stork Village.
EuroNatur Project manager Dr Justine Vansynghel (2nd from left) presented the membership certificates for the European Stork Village Network to Mark Cramer, Chair of Storrington and Sullington Parish Council; Isabella Tree, Knepp Rewilding; and Laura Vaughan-Hirsch, White Stork Manager Knepp (from left to right)
The new European Stork Village is the first to be awarded for nearly 10 years and brings the total to 16 villages, one in each of the following countries: Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Spain, Romania, Slovenia, Poland, Austria, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Turkey, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Serbia, Greece and now United Kingdom.
“For its exemplary commitment in the protection of storks and the conservation of stork-rich cultural landscapes in Great Britain, the EuroNatur Foundation awards the Knepp Estate and the village of Storrington the title European Stork Village 2025.”
Despite the cool, breezy weather, people from surrounding villages and towns came to join the celebrations which were filmed for a BBC Countryfile programme scheduled to be shown towards the end of May / beginning of June. Keep an eye out for it!
